Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) is one of eleven universities that achieved elite status in the German Excellence Initiative (Bundesexzellenzinitiative). The volcanology group is led by Prof. Dr. Donald Bruce Dingwell. Members of this group have core-competences in volcanology, mineralogy and chemical engineering. The equipment of the institute allows a comprehensive characterization of various types of volcanic ashes and other inorganic materials through: electron microprobe, scanning electron microscopy, powder-X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, Raman and infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, viscometer, dilatometers and others.

Fraunhofer institute UMSICHT, together with its branch Sulzbach-Rosenberg, covers a broad range of expertise for technical innovations in the fields of environmental, material, process and energy technology. The branch Sulzbach-Rosenberg itself has a long-time experience in thermal spraying and owns wide equipment for this technology. FhG SuRo is able to thermal spray coatings on a wide range of materials and composites. The main focus here is the development of processes for coating technologies to improve prefabricated parts and substrates. New coating materials and techniques for the protection against aggressive and hot surrounding conditions are developed individually according to industry requirements. Furthermore, the institute has a great deal of experience in the development of corrosion and wear resistant coatings.

Aviation Valley Association
Stowarzyszenie Grupy Przedsiębiorców Przemysłu Lotniczego "Dolina Lotnicza" (SDL) (English name: Aviation Valley Association) is located in southeastern Poland, famous for its aerospace industry and pilot training centers. This region has a heavy concentration of aerospace industry, scientific research centres, as well as educational and training facilities. SDL is one of the best places in Central Europe for the development and fulfillment of aerospace projects. The SDL Association was started on April 11, 2003, as a non-profit organization, as a means to furthering the rapid development and growth of the aerospace industry in southeastern Poland. This historic decision was conceived by a group of leading aeronautic producers, suppliers and businessmen. The SDL currently represents 150 companies within the region, with several others in the process of applying for membership.
